Police hunt for masked robbers who attacked man near cash machine

Two masked thugs battered and robbed a man after he lifted cash at a Paisley supermarket’s ATM.

Cops are hunting the pair after they ambushed the 35-year-old man near the Anchor Mills Morrisons store shortly after midnight yesterday.

PAISLEY DAILY EXPRESS: Live news as it happens

The yobs pounced on the man after he had withdrawn a three-figure sum from the cash machine and was walking near Millstream Court around 12.20am.

He suffered facial injuries after he was violently punched to the ground.

The yobs, who had scarves covering their faces, then grabbed the cash he had just withdrawn and ran off.

The victim did not require hospital treatment but was left badly shaken by the ordeal.

Detectives probing the attack last night described the men as white, of average build and around 5ft 6ins tall.

Both were wearing dark clothing with scarves covering their faces.

Detective Inspector Ian Ross, from Paisley CID, is leading the investigation and said: “We are investigating after a 35-year-old man was attacked near the Morrisons supermarket in Paisley, at around 12.20am on Monday.

“The victim was walking adjacent to Millstream Court after having withdrawn money from a cash machine at the supermarket when he was approached by two unknown males.

“The males then attacked the man and stole a three-figure sum of cash from him.”

He added: “The victim sustained injuries to his face but did not require hospital treatment.

“This was a nasty and calculated robbery on an innocent member of the public. We are very keen to identify the individuals responsible and would ask members of the public with information to come forward.

“If you saw two males loitering in the area before or after the incident, then we would like to hear from you.”

Readers with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
