Police hunt for masked man caught on CCTV at scene of firebombing at Lanarkshire vet practice

Police are on the hunt for a masked man who was spotted at the scene of a firebombing incident in Strathaven.

Officers have been reviewing CCTV after an item on fire was thrown towards Scott Bennett’s Platinum Vets and K9 Fertility in Strathaven.

The incident happened around 8.15pm on Thursday, December 2 on Common Green.

Witnesses told how young men on bikes targeted the facility with bricks and firebombs.

Two youths were reportedly seen cycling up to the premises in the rain before taking the bricks out of bags.

Pictures taken from the scene show fire crews and police in attendance following the incident, with officers cordoning off the area outside the vets while firefighters battled the flames.

There were no reports of any injuries and a small fire was extinguished at the scene.

Officers are keen to trace a man seen in the area around the time of the incident.

He is described as being of slim build, wearing a grey North Face jacket with the hood up, a full face balaclava or similar and dark trousers.

He was last seen on Waterside Street heading towards the junction with Barn Street and Green Street.

Police have launched a probe (UGC)

Enquiries are ongoing and officers are appealing for anyone with any information to get in touch.

Detective Sergeant Graham McAdam said: “There were people in the area at the time of the incident and I would appeal to anyone who saw anything or anyone matching the description above to contact us.”
