Police hunt five men after woman assaulted and robbed in Gallowgate

Police are hunting for five men after a 21-year-old woman was assaulted and robbed in the Gallowgate area of Glasgow.

The victim was grabbed from behind and had her phone and rucksack stolen on Moir Street, at 12.15am this morning (Tuesday).

She sustained minor injuries, however didn't require medical treatment following the incident.

Officers are also investigating two similar robberies in the area which took place last month.

A Police Scotland statement read: "Police in Glasgow are appealing for witnesses following an assault and robbery in the Trongate area.

"The incident happened around 12.15am on Tuesday, 8 October, on Moir Street and involved a 21-year-old woman.

"The woman was grabbed from behind and her mobile phone and rucksack were both stolen. She sustained minor injuries but did not require medical treatment.

"Officers are keen to trace five men in connection with the incident all described as being white and wearing dark hoodies."

Detective Constable Emma Laurie of Greater Glasgow CID added: “We are utilising a number of resources as part of our efforts to find the individuals responsible for this.

“Enquires are also ongoing into two similar robberies that took place in the same general area on 14 September, and there has been an increase in high visibility patrols as a result.

“At the moment we are keeping an open mind as to whether these incidents are linked, however I would encourage anyone with information which may be relevant to get in touch.

“I urge anyone who either saw the incident or has information which could help to contact police as soon as possible on 101, quoting incident number 0050 of 8 October, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
