A manhunt is underway after a 'suspicious' fire broke out at a home in West Lothian.
Emergency crews raced to Leyland Road in Bathgate at around 4.50am on Friday January 29 after receiving reports of a blaze at a house.
Officers are treating the inferno as willful fire raising.
Thank fully nobody was injured, with the motive behind the attack unknown at this stage.
A man was seen running from the area just after the house went up in flames.
He is described as white, six foot tall, aged between late twenties and early thirties and of an average building.
He was wearing a dark-coloured jumper and trousers and a thick, wooly hat.
At one stage he was wearing a high-vis jacket which might well have been removed during the incident.
Police are gathering and scouring relevant CCTV, as well as making door-to-door enquiries, footage in a bid to trace the firebug.
Officers are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
Detective Constable David McDougall said: “I am appealing for anyone who may have any information regarding this incident to contact us.
"The motive for this attack is unknown and enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances.
"I would urge anyone with any information to get in touch with us, no matter how insignificant it may seem, please do pass it on.
"Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101 quoting incident number 0344 of January 29.
