Police hunt driver after car crashed into house in Cessnock

Police are searching for a driver who fled the scene of a crash in Cessnock overnight.

Hunter Valley police attended a Chapman Street home about 9.30pm on Wednesday where they found a dark grey Holden Statesman crashed into a house.

Police have been told the car was travelling on High Street when it struck a Ford Fiesta, mounted the kerb, before hitting the house, causing significant damage.

The driver is alleged to have fled the scene prior to the arrival of officers.

A crime scene was established and inquiries to find the driver have commenced.

The residents of the home were uninjured.

Information that may assist police with their inquiries should be reported to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
