Police hunt driver after 11-year-old boy injured in Merthyr hit-and-run

An 11-year-old boy was injured after he was hit by a car while crossing a road in Merthyr Tydfil on New Year's Eve.

The driver of the red car didn't stop at the scene and police are now trying to track them down.

Police said the boy was hit as he crossed Station Road in Dowlais on his scooter.

Officers believe the car involved was a red Renault Clio.

The boy wasn’t seriously injured and managed to get home. His mum took him to hospital where he was treated for scratches and bruising.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: "An investigation into the incident is now underway."

The driver - believed to be a white man - is urged to come forward, as is anybody who may have witnessed the incident which happened at approximately 2pm on Thursday, December 31.

Anybody with information should call police on 101 and quote reference number 470059.
