Police hunt cab driver who 'slammed on brakes to injure passenger after row'

Police are hunting a taxi driver who is suspected of slamming on his brakes to injure a passenger before dumping him on a pavement.

CCTV footage shows the alleged victim clash with the driver in a row over the fare, before the driver braked "excessively".

Scotland Yard is now attempting to locate the driver, who has been urged to come forward.

In a clip taken inside the cab, the man at the wheel is heard shouting: "Mate listen, shut your f****** mouth, I've done it for a set price."

He can then be heard saying "f******* idiot" as the passenger crashes into the screen separating them.

It happened on London Bridge at around 1.15am on May 17, and the driver is claimed to have dragged the passenger out after stopping on nearby King William Street.

Another passenger later approached the taxi and got in after the assault.

He asks to be taken to Euston station, and the driver calmly agrees to take him.

PC Phil Hastings, who is investigating, said: “Although I have now made contact with the injured passenger, we still need to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident.

"I would also urge the driver and the second passenger, who approached the taxi after the assault, to come forward and speak with us. “

Any witnesses, or anyone with information that could identify the driver of the taxi is asked to call police on 101 or contact via Twitter @MetCC quote 2712802/19.
