Police horse named in memory of tragic young footballer Jordan Banks after lightning strike death

A tragic young footballer who left sweets on police cars during lockdown before being killed in a freak lightning accident has been honoured by the force.

Lancashire Police have named their latest horse in memory of nine-year-old Jordan Banks, who sadly passed away in May.

The Blackpool boy touched the hearts of thousands by raising funds for charity while also anonymously leaving sweet treats on marked police motors during the pandemic.

PH Banks has already become a popular member of the mounted branch (Lancashire Police)

The force released photographs of the animal who is now named PH Banks.

They tweeted: “Introducing PH Banks! We're honoured to share that we've named our latest horse after nine-year-old Jordan Banks!

“Jordan was sadly killed after being struck by lightning in Blackpool in May. Jordan’s family and friends have been in our thoughts ever since.”

Scores of tributes from friends and loved ones, including relatives in Glasgow, poured in for kind-hearted Jordan whose death shocked the nation.

His brave mum Danielle Begg has thanked Lancashire Police for their latest gesture and said it’s a ‘legacy’ for her boy.

The 38-year-old told LancsLive : “It’s lovely, they asked us this week and we loved the idea.

"It’s very thoughtful and a really kind gesture. Means a lot to us all.

"It’s another little legacy that Jordan has given us all. We can’t wait to go meet Banks and see him out on patrol. It’s very special."
