Police horse called Gunny gallops around Times Square after throwing officer from back then parks itself in garage

A New York police horse called Gunny briefy joined the evening rush hour on Wednesday and galloped through Times Square after tossing off the police officer riding it.

A loud noise from a truck reportedly spooked Gunny, who then bucked the New York Police Department officer riding the horse. The officer, still connected through his stirrup, was dragged on the street before disconnecting himself, according to the New York Times. The officer did not sustain life-threatening injuries.

Free of his officer, Gunny ran down Sixth Avenue in Times Square to East 47th Street, where the horse was stopped in a parking garage and secured by other police officers.

A cab driver told the Associated Press that Gunny sideswiped his cab and knocked off a mirror. No other damage was reported.
