Police hold up traffic to remove Christmas tree from Queens Drive flyover

Cars were held up on a major Liverpool road while officers were forced to clear a Christmas tree that was dumped in the middle of May.

Officers from Merseyside Police's Roads Policing Unit tweeted saying they had to remove the dead tree from the Queens Drive flyover headed towards Liverpool.

Video filmed by a police dash cam shows an officer dragging the tree across the dual carriageway and on to the railings at the side.

The road, which is one of the main routes into the city, is usually busy with traffic - and it's unclear whether the area was closed while officers cleared the road.

A tweet shared by the Roads Policing Unit explained what happened on the flyover - complete with a series of dad jokes worth of a Christmas cracker.

The post said: "Thanks for your patience while the traffic sgt cleared a Christmas Tree from Queens Drive flyover!

"Good to see he’s branching out in debris removal as he didn’t want to leaf it in the road causing an obstruction. #DadJokes #BadJokes #ChristmasTree!"

The tree was found dumped months after most families will have cleared out their Christmas trees after the festive period - but one fly-tipper obviously decided to keep the Christmas spirit going a little bit longer.
