Police help rescue swan which was seen walking along the A52 at Beeston

The A52 has had its fair share of delays over the last few months with the Clifton Bridge repair work - but this was a different sort of delay.

Nottinghamshire Police received a call on Wednesday morning (April 15) from members of the public concerned about a swan that was walking in the carriageway on the A52 in Beeston.

But PC Simon Widdowson and PC Natalie Wilkins were on hand and located the bird on the road before helping it to safety.

The force's Police Sergeant Kulvinder Dosanjh said: "The officers weren't led on a wild goose chase and quickly located the animal swanning about.

"PC Widdowson, also now known as the swan whisper, used all his experience to ensure a happy ending. I’ve been told it resembled that hilarious scene in the film Hot Fuzz!

"He conquered his fear and managed to wrap the animal in his police jacket before taking the animal to a safe location and releasing it. You could say, he was as graceful... as a swan...sorry."
