Police helicopter scrambled after man slashed across the face

A police helicopter was scrambled after reports of a man being slashed across the face outside a block of flats.

Officers from Merseyside Police were called to Mill Lane in Wavertree shortly after 11pm on Saturday April 9 to reports that a man in his 20s had been slashed across the face by another male outside the Sandy Knowe flats. Both males had left the scene before officers arrived but a 50-year-old man from Liverpool was later arrested on suspicion of assault a short time later.

The man has now been taken into custody and will be questioned by police. Officers searched the area with the assistance of a National Air Police Service helicopter but no evidence of a weapon or anyone injured was found.

An investigation is underway and a further search of the area is being carried out today while officers review any CCTV and witness statements.

Images seen by the ECHO from last night showed a significant police presence on neighbouring Long Lane with at least four police vehicles in attendance. A police cordon could be seen at the front entrance to the Sandy Knowe flats.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information is asked to contact @MerPolCC on Twitter or ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook or call 101 with log 1118 of 9 April 2022.
