Police helicopter over Kirkby as officers track stolen vehicles

A busy shift yielded impressive results for the Roads Policing Unit of Merseyside Police last night.

At 8.38pm officers tweeted that an operation involving the National Police Air Service had recovered a stolen scooter from Kirkby.

They said: "Stolen scooter recovered from Kirkby. This one had been giving us the run around all week but the rider didn’t fancy his chances against NPAS NorthWest and ditched it as soon as he saw the eye in the sky."

More success in the battle against road crime followed within an hour-and-a-half when officers tweeted: "This vehicle was sighted driving erratically and at speed in the L8 (Liverpool 8) area and the driver had their fog lamps on unnecessarily, causing others to be dazzled.

"Driver reported for driving without due care and misuse of fog lamps."

In the early hours of today, traffic officers recovered a stolen vehicle.

They tweeted: "Vehicle stolen in a burglary in the L17 area earlier this evening recovered just over the border in the Widnes area. Recovered for forensics."
