Police helicopter, dogs and undercover officers descend on Worsley beauty spot

There is a heavy police presence in Worsley this afternoon.

A police helicopter was seen circling the loopline just off Greenleach Lane in Roe Green just after 5pm today (August 22).

Residents described seeing police searching through gardens in the area.

Several police vehicles, police dogs and undercover officers were also at the scene.

A spokesman for GMP confirmed police were in the area as two people had been arrested on suspicion of burglary. It came after officers spotted a stolen vehicle.

A spokesman for the force said: “I can confirm that officers from the GMP Operations Unit have sighted a vehicle that has been stolen from a burglary.

“With support from the National Police Air Service, we have been able to bring that vehicle to a safe stop and two persons have been arrested from that vehicle on suspicion of burglary.

“They have been taken to custody where enquiries are ongoing.”

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News , Cath Ainscough, who lives near the loop line, described the scene this afternoon.

She said: “A helicopter is circling and numerous police officers are searching gardens on the road. There are undercover police too, they have just gone down the loop line.

“There’s one police dog’s car here and an undercover officer in an unmarked van. I cannot speak for the rest of the area as I’ve not left the house, but it sounds like there’s numerous cars around the green.”
