Police have seized this enormous weapon from a man brandishing it on the street

This enormous knife has been taken off the streets by police in south Manchester.

The two-foot long blade was seized in Northern Moor after officers were called to reports of a man brandishing the knife in the street.

The man was tasered and arrested.

Sharing the news on their social media channels on Monday night, officers from Wythenshawe said no one was injured in the incident.

They wrote: "Another #Knife removed from the streets...... Police were called to the Northern Moor area and #DGroupResponse were met by a male brandishing a machete in the street. The male was tasered and arrested for being In possession of an offensive weapon. Luckily no one was injured. #OpSCEPTRE"

Greater Manchester Police has been taking part in Operation Sceptre, a nationwide police initiative to remove lethal knives from the streets.

It has seen the force increase the number of stop and searches and sweep hiding spots, in response to the country's knife crime epidemic.
