Police have released a picture of a man they want to speak to in connection with attempted theft from a van

Police have released CCTV of a man they want to speak to in connection with an attempted theft from a van in Bolton.

On Monday evening, just after 10pm, police were called to Long Lane, in Breightmet.

According to officers a man opened a van door which had been left unlocked and searched it.

The owner of the van noticed movement on CCTV and ran outside to confront the man.

He then is said to have run off towards Blenheim Road empty-handed.

CCTV has been released showing a man in a hooded jacket and police now wish to speak to the man in relation to the crime.

A spokesman for the Bolton North division of Greater Manchester Police said: "At 10.06pm on Monday 13th April, police received reports of a male who had been disturbed in a van on a driveway on Long Lane.

"The male opened the van door, which had been left unlocked and started to search through the vehicle.

The occupier's CCTV alerted them to motion and they were able to disturb the male, who ran off towards Blenheim Road empty handed.

"Anyone with any information about the incident should contact police by emailing 15705@gmp.police.uk.

"Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
