Police hand out fines and make arrests as hundreds of revellers turn the Meadows into a festival site AGAIN

Police were handing out fines and arresting revellers as the Meadows descended into chaos last night.

Footage shows vast crowds gathered again to drink and enjoy the hottest day of the year so far.

Party-goers even set up an impromptu rave with speakers and a soundsystem.

One shocked resident said: "It definitely had a music festival vibe, with folk leaving rubbish everyone, loud music, minimal distancing and folk using every corner as a toilet."

Police tried to control the situation, issuing fines and even arresting at least one person but the evening descended into a chaotic mass brawl.

"There was quite a few penalty notices handed out and the police did chase down and pop one lad in cuffs later in the night, but not sure what happened to him," said the resident.

A video sent to the Edinburgh Evening News shows a massive brawl breaking out as the sun set.

This comes just one day after revellers were slammed for leaving the Meadows in a disgusting state.

People living in the area have reached their wits' end and are seeking help, said our resident.

They added: "I know a lot of folk have been complaining to councillors all day".

Inspector Norman Towler of Howdenhall Police Station said: “We are really fortunate to have so many fantastic parks and open spaces in the city, including the Meadows, and whilst the vast majority of residents and visitors enjoy these areas responsibly, regrettably this is not always the case.

“We will continue to pro-actively work with our partners, including the City of Edinburgh Council, and our local communities, to address instances of anti-social behaviour within the Meadows, and elsewhere, thereby ensuring that our communities and visitors enjoy the area safely.

“Officers will be actively patrolling and engaging with the local residents, and as ever, we encourage anyone who witnesses anti-social behaviour to report it to us.”
