Police are currently going door to door at flats near a Scots car park where a man was found injured before dying in hospital.
We told how cops launched a probe after the incident happened in Greenock at around 3.50pm on Sunday, January 2.
A 22-year-old was discovered badly hurt at a car park off Ann Street in the town.
Emergency services raced to the scene and the man was rushed to Inverclyde Royal Hospital for treatment. He died a short time later.
Following the incident officers cordoned off the area around the car park, which sits near a high rise block of flats on the street.
Police have been at the scene throughout the night while they carry out enquiries.
At around 10am forensic officers arrived to comb an area of the car park where the man was discovered.
An elderly couple, who live in a smaller set of flats which face the car park, said police knocked on their door and asked them if they had seen anything.
The lady told the Record: "Officers have been going door to door but we didn't see what happened and neither did our neighbours.
"All we saw was loads of police and ambulances come rushing into the car park shortly before 4pm.
"We didn't know what had happened but we knew it was serious. It was still light at this time so hopefully someone saw something."
Another local man said: "Police have been here through the night. It's terrible, such a young man. I hope they find out what happened."
Meanwhile, officers were combing through CCTV at the local pub, the Broomhill Tavern - which faces away from the car park.
The landlord told the Record: "They had me on the phone asking if they could check my CCTV so I came down last night, but my cameras are all facing the front.
"It's not clear what happened but it's awful."
Police say their enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
