Police give update on motorcyclist airlifted to hospital after serious crash near Mersey Gateway

Police have given an update on the condition of a motorcyclist who was involved in a serious crash near the Mersey Gateway Bridge yesterday.

Cheshire Police said the man, in his 30s, was airlifted to Aintree Hospital on Tuesday morning, at about 10.30am, after a crash with an Audi on the Daresbury Expressway.

Today police said the man remains in a serious condition in hospital however his injuries are said to be non-life threatening.

The driver of the Audi is understood to have been uninjured and did not need hospital treatment.

No-one was arrested at the scene.

The incident occurred on the expressway on the Runcorn side heading towards Sandymoor.

A large police presence was called to the scene, including a number of officers and paramedics.

An air ambulance also landed at the scene and was used to transport the man to hospital.

In a statement, the North West Air Ambulance said the man was described as having suffered "serious injuries".

Pictures taken at the scene show the back windscreen of the Audi car completely smashed.

The road was closed from 11am but re-opened at around 1.40pm.
