Police give update after blood-soaked sheets found dumped outside Aldi in North Tyneside

Blood-soaked sheets found dumped outside a North Tyneside branch of Aldi are not being treated as suspicious, police say.

An unnamed family contacted Northumbria Police after ChronicleLive revealed officers were called to the Wallsend branch of the budget supermarket on Tuesday.

Sources claimed the sheets, stuffed in the suitcase which had been left near the High Street West store's loading bay, contained a significant amount of blood.

However, having received an explanation from the family, the force confirmed there is "nothing further to investigate".

"We can confirm that we have received a call confirming the suitcase belonged to a family in Wallsend, " added a police spokesperson.

"They had left it outside their property with the intention of discarding it but the suitcase was later reported as a suspicious item to police.

"We have spoken to the family in question, who provided an explanation as to why there were traces of blood on the suitcase, and we are happy there is nothing further to investigate.

"The suitcase has since been disposed of and we want to thank the vigilant member of the public who rightly reported this to police.

"We would ask anyone who sees something that doesn't look quite right in their community to get in touch."
