Police give update after 10-year-old boy stabbed

Police have provided an update about the investigation launched after a 10-year-old boy was stabbed in Bolton.

Police were called to Bridgeman Street in Great Lever to reports that a youngster had been stabbed on Saturday at around 1.20pm.

The street went into lockdown for hours and CSI were seen combing a house for clues.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault later that day.

The boy was taken to Manchester Children's Hospital to be treated but has since been discharged. It has been established that the injuries were superficial, according to police.

The 18-year-old has now been assessed by specialist medical staff and is being detained under the Mental Health Act.

Greater Manchester Police says it is 'continuing to treat this investigation with the upmost seriousness' after the community was 'shocked' by the attack.

Detective Inspector Nathan Percival said: “I am so pleased to hear that the boy is doing well and has been discharged from hospital. We wish him all the best for a full and speedy recovery.

“This is a shocking incident which has caused distress and upset both to the victim and his family as well as within the wider community.

“I would like to reassure the public that we are continuing to treat this investigation with the upmost seriousness."

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting incident number 1475 of 11/07/20.
