Police give condition update on victims seriously injured in M6 crash

Police have today given an update on two drivers who were seriously injured in a horror crash on the M6.

Emergency services were called to the motorway on Tuesday, February 16, and a full closure was put in place between Junction 17 to 18 southbound.

The crash involved a heavy goods vehicle, which was carrying a 'significant quantity' of alcohol, and a van.

It caused the lorry to overturn but the driver managed to escape unaided, while the van driver had to be helped out by fire crews.

Today, Cheshire Police confirmed that both victims remain in hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police and fire crews were already present at the junction at the time the crash occurred on Tuesday, due a previous collision 30 minutes earlier, involving a fuel tanker which struck a bridge.

This caused at least 14,000 litres of fuel to spill out onto the road as emergency crews were called to the scene.

The motorway was closed for over 20 hours as firefighters worked to contain the fuel spillage from the first incident.
