Police give condition update on motorcyclist hurt in crash with police car

Police have given an update after a motorcyclist suffered serious injuries in a crash with a police car.

Road closures were put in place across Liverpool city centre on Sunday, May 10, following reports of a crash on Upper Duke Street.

The incident, at around 2.15pm, involved a motorbike and a police vehicle which was out attending an assistance call.

Today, police confirmed that the driver of the motorcycle was a 43-year-old man.

He remains in hospital with serious injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

Photos taken at the scene on Sunday, showed a large police presence as cordons were put in place on Duke St, Upper Duke St, Roscoe St, Great George St, Berry St and Leece St and Hardman St.

The incident was referred to the Independent Office For Police Conduct (IOPC) for investigation.

In an earlier statement, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police told the ECHO : "Emergency services are currently in attendance of Upper Duke Street, Liverpool this afternoon (10th May) following reports of a road traffic collision.

"It was reported that a police vehicle and a motorcycle were involved in the collision at around 2:15pm.

"The motorcyclist is said to be in a serious condition and has been taken to hospital.

"Road closures are in place on Duke St, Upper Duke St, Roscoe St, Great George St, Berry St and Leece St and Hardman St. Please avoid the are if you are making any essential journeys.

"The incident will be referred to the IOPC for investigation."
