Police get extra powers after yobs throw stones and wreck cars

Police have been given special powers to stop youths throwing stones and damaging cars in north Liverpool.

Local residents have complained to police about anti-social behaviour in the area since Saturday. Cars and other property have been damaged by youths, police said.

Now police have introduced a dispersal zone which will give them the power to send suspected trouble makers home.

The dispersal zone around Rice Lane recreation ground will begin at 6pm tomorrow evening (Thursday) and last for 48 hours.

Community policing Inspector Andrew Lloyd said to the ECHO : “We’re aware of the significant impact that anti-social behaviour can have on individuals and communities, and we will be targeting people we suspect of being involved in this type of behaviour in the area.

"To the vast majority of law-abiding members of the community, I just want to remind them that this order is not about bothering people going about their legitimate daily business.”
