Police found almost £2,000 of MDMA after uncovering south Manchester 'drugs den'

Two dealers hauled before a judge after police uncovered a south Manchester 'drugs den' have avoided jail.

Adrian Bailey, 32, and Joshua Grant, 30, appeared in court after police discovered almost £2,000 worth of MDMA at a flat in Fallowfield.

Six officers executed a warrant at Grant's flat on Ladybarn Road, where Bailey and two women were also present.

As well as drugs, officers seized a crack pipe, several mobile phones and a set of scales.

A total of £1,913 worth of MDMA was recovered in April 2019, as well as cannabis worth £25 and cocaine also worth £25.

Grant said he was only dealing cannabis to a small circle of friends.

He pleaded guilty to allowing his flat to be used for dealing MDMA.

Bailey admitted dealing MDMA, a class A drug.

A judge described the flat as a 'drugs den', where people could 'access drugs as well as come along and use them'.

Both men had phones which contained messages suggestive of drug dealing.

After being arrested, Grant admitted having drugs but denied being a dealer, while Bailey accepted being a cannabis and cocaine user.

Both have previous convictions, but none for drugs supply.

Defending Grant, Patrick Buckley said his dealing was at a low level and there was a 'limited' number of text messages.

He said Grant had not been in any further trouble since, and has been making progress by taking courses in coding and IT support.

Mr Buckley described Grant as 'vulnerable' and said he had been taking MDMA to 'self medicate' for ADHD.

'Hard working' Bailey now works as a labourer on a building site and is also paying to complete a plumbing course, Manchester Crown Court heard.

"Supplying class A drugs or being involved in the supply of class A drugs is always an imprisonable matter," the judge, Mr Recorder Rigby said.

"It doesn't follow that prison or immediate prison will always be imposed but it always passes what it called the custodial threshold.

"In other words, it is very serious."

Bailey, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply MDMA and possession of cocaine.

Grant, of Wilbraham Road, Fallowfield, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cannabis, allowing his premises to be used in the supply of MDMA, and possession of MDMA.
