Police forced to close bar after reports of party taking place

Police were forced to close a town centre bar following reports of a party.

Officers were called to The Bar, in Nelson Square, Bolton, yesterday evening (Friday, September 4).

It came following reports that a party was taking place inside the venue.

As a result, the bar was ordered to shut for the rest of the evening.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers attended The Bar on Nelson Square in Bolton following reports of a party yesterday evening (Friday 4 September 2020).

"Advice was given and the bar was temporarily closed for the evening."

Lockdown rules were relaxed to allow bars to open on July 4, but restrictions currently in place in Bolton include a ban on two households mixing indoors.

The borough currently has the worst Covid-19 infection rate in the country, standing at 92.16 per 100,000 people.

It is the highest rate the town has seen since the pandemic began.

Public health officials say the vast majority of people contracting the virus in Bolton are under the age of 40.

While other parts of Greater Manchester are now seeing some restrictions on leisure facilities and indoor performances lifted, they will remain closed in Bolton due to the spike in new infections.

The Bar has been approached for comment.
