Police forced to break up crowds as hundreds queue for Nike '110s' Air Max 95 release

Crowds of eager shoppers were dispersed by police this morning after hundreds queued up outside a Size? shoe shop in Liverpool.

It is thought that around 400 eager shoppers had turned up to gather in line for the Nike Air Max 95 OG Neon release.

Some were so keen to get their hands on the desired shoe that they even camped out overnight.

The trainer release is one of the most sort after shoe releases of the year.

This specific neon colourway has not been available in its OG form for years now, which is what drew the crowds out, the Liverpool Echo reports.

However, the huge crowds lead to the police being called, asking the crowds to move on, which then lead to the shoe shop Size? being closed.

Queues of people outside Size? Bold Street waiting for the Nike Air Max 95 OG Neon release led to the police being called (Liverpool ECHO)

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "We can confirm officers attended a shop in Liverpool city centre this morning (Thursday 17 December) to a report of a large gathering outside.

"We were called just after 7.05am to a report a crowd had gathered outside Size on Bold Street ahead of its scheduled opening.

"After opening, staff at the store secured the doors to prevent further customers entering.

"Officers attended and gave advice to staff, and asked those gathered outside to leave.

"The shop subsequently closed and those gathered outside moved on."

The original Nike Air Max 95 neon coloured shoe has been popular in Liverpool since they were first released in 1995.

Even today it's not unusual to see youngsters around Liverpool wearing '110s'.

However, recent years has seen a number of other colourways released though now they are available in many more colours.

Rumours of the shoe making a comeback first surfaced last year, with hopeful punters keeping an eye on chatrooms and social media until its hotly anticipated drop today.

The trainers originally got their nickname '110s' because of their original price tag in London, even though they are the Air Max 95 and have been a variety of prices for years.

Today the Nike Air Max 95 OG Neon went on sale for £140 at Size?

One passer-by, who wanted to remain anonymous, contacted the Liverpool ECHO to complain about the queues, he said: "See how atrocious the social distancing is outside Size? on Bold Street.

"Over 400 people live and no one keeping two metre. Police are there and its out of control. Disgrace with the pandemic going."

Such was the anticipation of the shoes that some punters apparently camped out overnight, a well known tactic to ensure hopefuls are at the front of the queues when the store opens.
