Police fire taser at Elderslie woman with knife

Cops fired a taser at a woman who was threatening to harm herself.

Officers raced to reports of a 33-year-old woman armed with a knife at a property in Elderslie around 8.30pm on Wednesday.

It’s understood she refused to cooperate and told officers she planned to hurt herself.

A taser was fired amid fears she would follow through with her threat.

The blade was recovered from the scene and the woman was taken to hospital to be assessed.

Sightings of missing Paisley man spark fresh hope

It is only the second time officers in the Renfrewshire and Inverclyde division have fired the weapon, which incapacitates the person by delivering an electric current.

Police confirmed that no one was injured during the incident.

The incident will be referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner in line with standard procedure when a taser is fired.
