Police fining drivers for dangerous parking at popular beauty spot

Police are now issuing fixed penalty tickets after drivers parking at a popular beauty spot blocked a footpath forcing families to into a busy road.

Drivers have blocked the footpaths at Fairy Glen, a West Lancashire beauty spot popular with families from across Merseyside.

Families, some with prams and wheelchairs, have been forced into the busy A5209 where the speed limit is 60mph.

Police have now issued fixed penalty tickets to drivers found to have blocked the footpath, and posted a warning on social media.

Fairy Glen at Appley Bridge, which runs down the side of Parbold Hill, features a secluded waterfall and ancient woodland.

The message, posted by Ormskirk and West Lancashire Rural Police, read: "Due to inconsiderate parking at Fairy Glenn which is blocking the footpath forcing people with prams and wheelchairs into the national speed limit road, Officers are issuing fixed penalty tickets. Please think about other people when parking."

The warning comes after police in North Wales launched a crackdown on bad parking.

On Saturday, at least 13 vehicles were removed after obstructing footpaths and forcing pedestrians into the road, as well as making it difficult for other passing motorists
