Police fine two families after they cram into one car for B&Q trip for 'essential wood'

Police have fined two families after they crammed together into one car for a trip to B&Q.

Four adults and five children from two different households went in the same car for a trip to B&Q in Plymouth.

Devon and Cornwall Police officer, PC Adam Bell, said that a Covid-19 fine was issued to a couple who took their five children to the DIY store on Tavistock Road for some "essential wood" for a garden project.

But on further investigation, he discovered that two other adults in the car were neighbours who did not live with them, which is against the law under current lockdown restrictions.

The driver was also fined for "numerous" traffic offences, including causing danger to others, no insurance and driving otherwise in accordance with a driving licence, according to Plymouth Live.

He said: "Another day, another COVID-19 fine issued. This time, a couple decided to take their five children to B&Q to pick up some ‘essential’ wood for a garden project.

"What they failed to mention was that they had travelled with their neighbours in the same car.

"Four adults [and] five children all crammed into a car - not to mention the timber wedged above their heads.

"Needless to say the driver was dealt with separately for numerous traffic offences such as driving otherwise in accordance with a DL, no insurance and causing danger to others."

Last weekend also saw police attend a Covid-breaching party held in the Chaddlewood area of Plympton. It resulted in 16 people - including a dental nurse - being fined £800 each.

The large gathering left police "lost for words" as they had all gathered in the living room of the property in Spindle Crescent, "all drinking, smoking cannabis and doing NOS [nitrous oxide]".

However, their excuses were the icing on the cake for officers, who dished out £12,800 worth of fines.

Police stated the excuses included: "I know what we did was wrong but we’re in our 20s and we just want to enjoy ourselves."
