Police fine 70 illegal and 'dangerous' drivers who dumped cars near Loch Lomond

Police have fined 70 drivers over illegal parking at the side of the road at a Scots beauty spot.

Photos of cars parked on the C6 road between Balmaha and Rowardennan, near Loch Lomond, were shared by officers on social media.

Rows of cars can be seen parked up on the grassy verge.

Police handed out 70 fines on Saturday (Forth Valley Police Division)

Forth Valley police slammed the drivers as 'dangerous' reminding road users that parking on a clearway is prohibited.

Officers were called out to help Stirling Council workers enforce parking regulations in the area.

A total of 70 fixed penalty notices were issued on Saturday.

The incident comes after numerous reports of dangerous and illegal parking near Scots beauty spots as day trippers flock to the great outdoors during lockdown.

Council workers were forced to paint double yellow lines on stretches of road near the Devil's Pulpit in Stirlingshire two weeks ago after visitors continued to park illegally.

A Forth Valley Police spokesperson said: "Parking in a Clearway Zone is an offence.

"Parking in a clearway causes a danger to other road users.

"The C6 road between Balmaha and Rowardennan is a clearway with parking prohibited.

"On Saturday, 1 August, 2020, officers from Police Scotland assisted our partners from Stirling Council enforcing the C6 road clearway between Balmaha and Rowardennan due to the high numbers of vehicles parked illegally on this road and causing a danger to other road users."
