ACT Police have fined 14 university students $1000 each for breaching health directions, and charged one man for refusing to check-in to a city shop.

A 34-year-old man was charged with using offensive language in a public place and failing to comply with a direction of the Chief Health Officer, after refusing to check-in to the inner-city store.

After not complying with directions, police said the man was arrested and later bailed to appear at the ACT Magistrates Court.

A 19-year-old Garran woman was fined on Wednesday when she returned to the ACT from North Sydney on July 14 without an exemption or adhering to quarantine requirements.

She has since received an exemption from ACT Health, and is completing the required isolation period at home.

In a separate incident, 14 university students were each issued $1000 fines for breaching health directions.

The students remain in isolation at their university residences.

ACT Policing said they have focused on checking whether people are completing home quarantine and stay-at-home directions, visiting almost 300 people in the last week.

They said they have also visited construction sites to check compliance.

They claimed to have stopped almost 1500 drivers to speak with them about the current health orders in the week from Friday 16 July to Thursday.

ACT Police also said they received 13 reports of non-compliance from the community in the past week, all of which were determined to be minor breaches.
