Police fine 12 lockdown louts after officers break up gathering at Scots boozer

A group of 12 lockdown louts have been fined after they met up at a Clackmannanshire boozer at the weekend.

Police were alerted to the gathering at the Abercromby Arms, Tullibody, at around 7pm on Saturday night.

A woman and 11 men were all issued on the spot fines for breaching the current guidelines on social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Emergency legislation from the Scottish Government says that people can only venture out for essential needs and must stay two metres away from people in other households.

All pubs and restaurants are the among the businesses to be closed as the government seeks to mitigate the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon revealed on Monday that 1,262 have died after testing positive for Covid-19 in Scottish hospitals.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “At around 7pm on Saturday, we received a report of people gathered within a premises on Stirling Road, Tullibody.

"Officers attended and 11 men and one woman were issued with fixed penalty notices under the Coronavirus Act 2020."
