Police find woman dead after Downer house fire

Police have found a woman dead after they were called to a house fire in Downer on Saturday.

Emergency services were called to an Atherton Street home about 6am.

ACT Policing said in a statement that fire and rescue crews extinguished a small fire in one room of the home.

They said they discovered a woman's body in the house a short time later.

Police had started investigating the incident. The woman's next of kin had been notified of her death.

Officers urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website.

Information could be provided anonymously.
