Two people have been found dead at a property in Darling Downs, on the south-eastern fringe of Perth.

Police were called to the house by a neighbour around 6:45pm on Monday.

When officers arrived, they found the bodies of a 75-year-old woman and a 74-year-old man.

Police said there was no third party involved and there was no threat to the public.

An investigation is underway into the circumstances around the deaths, and detectives and forensic officers will remain at the scene today.

WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said the death of the elderly couple was a tragedy and confirmed nobody else was involved.

"Our homicide squad is there and our forensics are investigating it, we are not looking for anyone else and I might just leave it at that," he told ABC Radio Perth.

"It was a tragic set of circumstances for this couple, and we are yet to be able to really confirm too much else at this point."
