Police find uninsured drivers 'trying their luck' during lockdown in Nottingham

Two motorists were found by police 'trying their luck' by driving around during lockdown with no insurance.

Officers were patrolling the Aspley area on Saturday night (March 28) where they located to drivers without insurance.

Both cars were seized.

Aspley Police said: "Despite the lockdown we have still been out on proactive patrols this week. Great to see that the vast majority of the public are staying at home. Thank you.

"Unfortunately these two motorists decided to try there luck and failed."

PC Parkes and PC Tennyson from Nottinghamshire Police were also conducting on-foot patrols from 10pm on the Broxtowe Estate.

The force said the officers were "offering words of advice to a number of people still loitering and doing non-essential journeys".

Police forces across the UK now have additional powers to help prevent the spread of coronavirus and enforce a nation-wide lockdown.

These include powers to fine, take serial offenders to court and even the powers to arrest those who fail to comply.

Groups of more than two people are prohibited and officers can also disperse larger groups at will.

Fines start at £60, but double each time the offender is caught breaking the measures put in place by the British Government.
