Police find three knives hidden at a children's play park in Eastwood

Police officers have discovered three knives hidden within a children's play park in Eastwood.

Two of the weapons were found concealed in the undergrowth in Coronation Park and Skate Park, just off Plumtree Way, on Friday (September 20).

Officers from Nottinghamshire Police's local beat team for Broxtowe located the weapons using metal detectors.

Another knife was found in the bushes surrounding Coronation Park just two days before on Wednesday, September 18.

Broxtowe North Police, which covers Eastwood, Kimberley, Nuthall and surrounding areas, added: "As a result local officers will be carrying out increased high visibility patrols of the park to reassure the local community.

"If you need to report knife crime, call 999 in an emergency, 101 in a non-emergency, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

The sweep follows a similar operation on September 18, when police officers discovered a kitchen knife, a DIY knife and a saw in the parks and open spaces in Clifton, The Meadows, Sneinton and St Ann's.

The operations come as part of the force's week-long knife amnesty, where people can safely and anonymously deposit weapons in bins at 25 different location across the county.

It will finish on Sunday, September 22, and a number of other operations - such as visiting people who have imported illegal knives - are also taking place throughout the week.
