Police investigating the stabbing of a ride-share driver at Merewether this week have recovered the vehicle taken by a group of unknown people when the violent incident played out.
Detectives are also understood to be seeking information from the ride-share company about the identity of the person who ordered the car that was stolen after the stabbing.
It comes after a 22-year-old driver - initially thought by police to be working for Uber but now understood to be employed by another ride-share company - picked up a group of people at Windale just after 2.30am on Thursday.
He took them to Merewether, but when they reached William Street one of the passengers threatened him with a blade and demanded his wallet, phone and car keys.
When the driver refused to comply, he was stabbed in the arm and leg before being dumped on the road.
The group fled in the car.
The driver was treated at hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police found the silver Ford Focus dumped beside the Pacific Highway at Jewells, near the edge of Windale, on Thursday afternoon.
Detectives have not yet arrested anyone over the incident, but their inquiries are ongoing.
