Police FIND mum of baby eight months after newborn was abandoned in park

The mum of a baby boy who was found after being abandoned in a park has finally been tracked down by detectives.

The tot, who was left fully clothed and wrapped in a blanket, was found by a dog walker in King’s Norton, Birmingham back in April.

The baby is said to be "doing really well and is being well cared for".

Officers were concerned for the mother and appealed to the public to help find her.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: "The support from the public and media has been instrumental in identifying the mother.

An e-fit was issued by police (SWNS)

"[We] received an overwhelming response with more than 1,000 lines of enquiry and have since been able to locate the baby’s mother.

"As stated in our public appeals, our priority was always to ensure mum was safe and supported.

"We can confirm that no further action will be taken by us and, with partners, we are ensuring that she is getting the appropriate support and care she needs.

"This is a very upsetting case, we would ask you not to speculate any further, as this is deeply distressing for those concerned.

"We would like to thank you for all your help and support in what has been a very sensitive and emotive matter for everyone including investigators who have worked tirelessly to ensure this outcome.

"We wish the baby all the best in the future."

Speaking earlier in the year dog walker Terry Walsh told how he would have walked on by what he thought was a discarded blanket - leaving the baby boy to be found by foxes, rats or a less gentle dog - if his husky hadn't drawn his attention to the infant.

He heard the baby crying after Hel ran over, lay beside the rolled-up shawl and began "gently nudging" the baby with her nose, Team Dogs reported.

"Suddenly I heard this baby cry. I think it was Hel's gentle nudging and the heat from my husky's body that woke the baby up," Mr Walsh said.

"I was a bit stunned so I quickly went over and lifted part of the blanket away from the baby's face and it was newborn, as I know now. I knew it was very young."

He and a mum walking in the park with her kids phoned police and waited with the baby until emergency services arrived and took the child away.
