Police find more than £500,000 worth of drugs as two men charged

TWO men have been charged after police discovered more than £500,000 worth of drugs at a property in North Lanarkshire.

Police found a cannabis cultivation after attending a property on Merry Street in Motherwell at around 6pm on Thursday.

They recovered 874 plants with an estimated street value of £522,000.

A 33-year-old man and a 30-year-old man were arrested and charged in connection with the discovery.

They are expected to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday.

Detective Inspector Scott Robertson said: “This significant recovery highlights our commitment to disrupting drug-related crime in our communities.

“It also reinforces our ongoing commitment to the serious organised crime taskforce and the country’s serious and organised crime strategy.

“Information from the public is vital in removing drugs from our communities.

“I would encourage anyone with concerns around drugs to contact Police Scotland on 101.

“Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”
