Police find more racist graffiti in Denton park on same day 'for whites only' was daubed on a defibrillator

Police found more racist graffiti in a park in Denton on the same day 'for whites only' was daubed on a live-saving defibrillator in the town.

Denton and Reddish MP Andrew Gwynne called for an investigation after discovering the horrific racist graffiti on the life-saving device in Civic Square on Friday (January 22).

The words 'For whites only' and 'No n******' were written on the defibrilator.

Mr Gwynn, who helped clean the graffiti off with his wife Allison, said he would be asking Tameside council to check CCTV in the area in a bid to catch the 'scumbag' who did it.

Now, local police said they found more 'similar obscene graffiti' in the area on the same day.

In a post on the GMP Tameside South and West Facebook page, officers said they responded to two incidents of racially-motivated criminal damage last Friday.

The first being the graffiti on the defibrillator and the second on a bench and sign post in Hulmes Wood Nature Reserve.

The post read: "These crimes have been brought to the attention of GMP by Tameside Council and local residents.

"The local authority have acted swiftly and quickly to remove the graffiti from both locations.

"At Denton Civic Square a defibrillator had been targeted.

"Fortunately, local residents were in the process of removing the graffiti as representatives from the local council arrived to remove it.

"This goes to show the outrage from local people to such acts.

"There was also items damaged, namely a bench and a sign post with similar obscene graffiti at Hulmes Wood Nature Reserve during the same time scale.

"Both crimes are currently being fully investigated by local police officers.

"This type of offending will not be tolerated and will be dealt with robustly."

Anyone with information about the graffiti is asked to contact GMP or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
