Police find knives and a saw during weapons sweep in Clifton, The Meadows, Sneinton and St Ann's

Police found a kitchen knife, a DIY knife and a saw during a weapons sweep across the city.

Officers used metal detectors as they searched parks and open spaces in Clifton, The Meadows, Sneinton and St Ann's on Tuesday, September 17.

The exercise was aimed at keeping communities safe by removing weapons that may have been concealed or dumped by offenders.

Sergeant Nigel Bradley said: "These were excellent finds. There is no place for knives to be left in public places, putting our communities at risk, and these weapons are now out of harm's way. It was good work by the officers involved."

Weapons sweeps are conducted regularly by neighbourhood policing teams across Nottinghamshire all year round.

Police are highlighting some of the actions taken to prevent knife crime, as part of the national Operation Sceptre.

The operation, which runs until midnight on Sunday, also includes a knife amnesty, with 25 police stations and other buildings hosting bins where people can dispose of knives without fear of prosecution
