Police find Hummer 'with guns in' driven by man on way to 'attack' election centre

At least one arrest has been made after an alleged plan to attack an election centre in Philadelphia was discovered by police.

US media reports that police are investigating the alleged plot to attack the Pennsylvania Convention Center in the state's largest city.

Police got a tip that a group, possibly a family, drove up from Virginia in a Hummer or Humvee to attack the election centre where votes are being counted that could give Joe Biden a lead in the keystone state.

Police say they recovered a weapon and believed they recovered the Hummer they received a tip about, reports 6abc.

No injuries have been reported.

There is no indication what political persuasion the arrested man has however Donald Trump and Trump campaign surrogates have sought to undermine the electoral process in Pennsylvania as it appears to be leaning toward Democrat Joe Biden.

Security has been stepped up around the convention centre in response to the arrest late on Thursday evening (local time).

In Philadelphia, 358,644 absentee and mail-in ballots have been returned so far. 84 percent of those have been counted, and 58,642 more need to be counted.

This evening former House speaker and avowed Trump supporter Newt Gingrich described non-existent crimes for which Attorney General Bill Barr should send in federal agents to arrest election workers in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania has 20 electoral votes and if it goes to Joe Biden that would give him the required 270 electoral votes to be the next President of the United States.

On Election Day Eric Trump and Rudy Guiliani visited Pennsylvania.

After arriving in the state, Eric said: “This is absolute fraud, we’ve seen it in Philadelphia before, they’re trying to make a mockery of the election of this country.”

There is no evidence of widespread election fraud anywhere in the US, which includes Pennsylvania.

He added: “The Democrats know the only way they can win in this election is to cheat in Pennsylvania.

“And we’ve seen it from day one. We found ballots in drainage ditches, they’re not letting our poll watchers watch the polls.

“There’s video after video of them passing our collateral material in polling sites all over Philadelphia.

“They’re trying to cheat! They’re trying to cheat! They have 3x5 printed big posters in polling locations all over the city saying to vote for Biden/Harris which is totally illegal.”

Pennsylvania is continuing to count mail-in ballots although Donald Trump still has a narrow lead overall.

The Trump campaign has presented no concrete evidence of fraud in Pennsylvania or elsewhere in the state.

Counting continued smoothly, as it has since election day. As of Thursday evening, Philadelphia had counted nearly 286,000 mail-in ballots, almost 80% of the total ballots cast.
