Police find group playing 5-a-side football in south Manchester park during UK lockdown

Police came across a group of youngsters playing a game of 5-a-side football in a park in south Manchester - despite the country being in lockdown due to coronavirus.

Greater Manchester Police officers said they had to dispel the group who were gathered Platt Fields park in Fallowfield on Thursday morning.

They have now urged people to abide by the lockdown rules which were announced earlier this week and 'sit on the couch and watch TV'.

A post on the GMP Fallowfield page on Facebook, said: "The government advice was simple but it seems some still need reminding.

".....5-a-side football in Platt Fields park is definitely not listed!

"We have had to come to work today, putting ourselves and our families at risk, please take the time to read the rules again and abide by them.

"This won't last forever, and like many have said before, all you're being asked to do is sit on the couch and watch TV. Many before us had to do so much more to fight for our survival."

On Monday (March 23), Britain was put into lockdown for at least three weeks in an attempt to contain the spread of coronavirus.

The rules ban people from leaving the house in all but a few circumstances, such as shopping for basic necessities, for one form of exercise a day, medical needs or to travel to and from work when working from home isn't possible.

"These four reasons are exceptions - even when doing these activities, you should be minimising time spent outside of the home and ensuring you are 2 metres apart from anyone outside of your household," the post adds.

"These measures must be followed by everyone.

"Separate advice is available for individuals or households who are isolating, and for the most vulnerable who need to be shielded. "

Despite this, a number of pub and shops in Greater Manchester have also been reported to the police for breaking coronavirus rules.
