Police investigating a break-in at a community allotment in south Liverpool found on a neighbouring farm which had been shot with an air rifle.

Officers were called out to the Dutch Farm Field allotments at around 9.30am yesterday morning following reports of a break-in.

Police said damage was caused to a number of buildings and windows at the site on Highbank Drive. A small amount of cash and a mobile phone was stolen.

Police found a number of dead chickens on a neighbouring farm. It is believed they had been shot with an air rifle and police are trying to find out if they are linked to the burglary.

The Dutch Farm, run by Liverpool YMCA, provides projects and activities for homeless people. The centre has won a number of community award over recent years.

The YMCA declined to comment when approached by the ECHO.

Blues legend Graeme Sharp joined young adults from the Everton in the Community National Citizen Service (NCS) at Dutch Farm on a previous occasion (Liverpool Echo)

Community Inspector Paul Holden said to the ECHO : “This was a particularly senseless attack on a community facility.

“I would appeal for anyone who was in the vicinity of the allotments who saw anyone or anything suspicious to contact us as they may have information which is vital to our investigation.”
