Police find car of pensioner who has gone missing from his County Durham home

Police searching for a missing man have found his car near Durham City.

David Jolly, 74, did not return to his home in Kirk Merrington, near Bishop Auckland , after saying he was going for a walk at around 11am on Sunday.

His car was later found parked in a layby on the A177 near Shincliffe, on the outskirts of Durham City , an area which police say he knows well.

Officers are now appealing for help from the public to locate him as the search continues.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "He is described as being 5ft 11, of thin build, with straight grey hair.

"When last seen he was wearing a grey jumper and grey trousers, with brown shoes and a black waterproof jacket.

"Anyone with information about Mr Jolly’s whereabouts is asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident number DHM-31032018-0324."
