Police find body of young man floating in the sea near beach of popular Ibiza holiday resort

Police in Ibiza are investigating the death of a man found floating in the sea near the beach of a popular holiday resort on the island.

His lifeless body was spotted in the ocean just before 10am yesterday, Sant Josep Police said.

He was found in the area of Punta de Pinet in Cala de Bou, near San Antonio.

Police officers rushed to the scene after receiving a telephone alert.

On their arrival, they could see the body floating in the sea about 45ft from the beach but managed to stop it being washed further away by the currents.

Police have confirmed the body is that of a young man but they are still waiting for the results of genetic tests.

It is believed the corpse belongs to a 40-year-old Spanish national with residence in San Antonio, Diario De Ibiza reports.

Preliminary results of forensic analysis have revealed no signs of violence on the body.

He was wearing street clothes but had no documents on him.

The Civil Guard has taken over the investigation.
