Police find body in search for missing Irvine man William Sharpe

Police searching for Irvine man William Sharpe  found a body on Easter Sunday.

The 52-year-old dad-of-one had been missing from his Lawthorn home since the previous Thursday afternoon.

And although formal identification has still to take place, police have said they believe it to be William.

His family have been informed.

A police spokesperson said: “At 12.20pm on Sunday afternoon a body was found in water near to Roddinghill Farm, Irvine. Although formal identification has still to take place, it is thought to be William Sharpe, 52, who had been missing from home since Thursday, April 18. His family have been informed.”

It would appear that there are no suspicious circumstances, but a post mortem will be carried out in due course, added police.

A report will also be sent to the procurator fiscal.

People have taken to social media in the wake of the sad news to offer their condolences to William's family, which includes his wife Karen.

One poster, David Henderson said: “I’m so sorry for your loss Karen. He was such a nice man and I learned a lot from him. Our thoughts are with you and your family.”
