Police find body of missing grandfather John Irvine

John Irvine's daughter Kaylaa thanked rescuers for their efforts.

The daughter of a missing Perth grandfather has thanked search crews after his body was found in the Mundaring State Forest, east of Perth.

A search was launched for 67-year-old John Irvine after he left his Northam home on Sunday morning and never returned.

Mr Irvine, who had dementia, was last seen at the Quairading roadhouse on Sunday afternoon, where he was captured on CCTV asking for directions.

A police helicopter, mounted officers, dogs, tactical response group personnel and SES volunteers were all involved in the search.

His car was found in the Mundaring State Forest on Wednesday afternoon and volunteers found several items from his vehicle in bushland this morning, including a cordless drill and a blue polo shirt.

Mounted police then discovered his body several hours later.

Mr Irvine's daughter, Kaylaa, thanked those involved in the search for her father.

"I just want to say thank you to everybody who came out and were searching all night last night for my dad," she said.

"To all the SES crews, the police, the firies, the ambos, everybody out there looking for him up in the air and everything like that, sadly we've been able to find him and he's passed away.

"So I just wanted to get it out there and say thank you to everybody who helped find him and everything."
