Police find £800,000 worth of drugs in a vehicle

Police discovered drugs worth more than £800,000 in a vehicle in Heywood.

Officers were called to Hareshill Road at around 10:45am and seized approximately 28 kilos of suspected drugs in the vehicle.

Officers were in attendance throughout the day on Monday and enquiries are ongoing, according to Greater Manchester Police.

Photos showed police officers in a compound used by Yearsley Food Group on Harehills Road in Heywood.

GMP said a 39-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A controlled drugs.

He remains in custody for questioning.

Detective Inspector Karl Ward, of GMP's Rochdale division, said: "Today's result displays the importance of communities working alongside police to disrupt and dismantle the drugs supply chain.

"With the public’s help, alongside our hard-working officers, we can continue to remove illegal drugs from our streets."

The M.E.N. has asked Yearsley Food Group for a comment.

GMP has appealed for anyone with information to call 101 or ring Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
